Alpha Phi

Alpha Phi was founded on October 10, 1872 at Syracuse University and since has grown into an international organization with chapters on 170 college campuses. The Theta Tau chapter at Rensselaer began as a local sorority with the letters Phi Alpha Sigma in 1986 and was colonized by the Alpha Phi International Fraternity in 1995.  Alpha Phis strive to uphold the strongest ideals of womanhood as established by the founders through promotion of scholarship, character development, loyalty, and the strong bond of sisterhood.

The Theta Tau chapter fosters lifelong connections between women of unique backgrounds, interests, and talents.  Connected by a common goal of beneficial contribution, Alpha Phis aim to become the best version of themselves. Sisters of Alpha Phi are committed to excellence in all aspects of life and share a strong desire to improve the world around them.

Philanthropic events hosted by the Theta Tau chapter benefit the Alpha Phi Foundation, an organization that empowers women to be generous givers.  Funds raised go to programs that advance leadership development, encourage academic excellence, improve women’s heart health, support sisters in need, preserve heritage and educate about the value of philanthropy.

Alpha Phis are very involved on campus and embody a strong presence within a variety of groups.  Sisters are members of numerous honor societies, including White Key, Phalanx, and Order of Omega, and repeatedly place on the Dean’s List.  Alpha Phis hold academic leadership roles as members of the Woman’s Mentor Program, I-PERSIST mentor program, LEAP, Engineering Ambassadors, and as classroom TAs.  Other campus groups with Alpha Phi involvement include the Rensselaer Union E-Board, Society of Woman Engineers, Relay for Life, Green Greeks, and numerous sports teams at the varsity and club levels.

Rensselaer’s members of Alpha Phi welcome you and cannot wait to meet you this recruitment season!
